Today marks one year since I began the process of writing my first book.
Even though I had hoped to have completed it within six months, I am unbelievably proud of myself with what I have done. I now understand what it takes to put together such a large project. It takes obsession.
The biggest update I have since my last journal entry is that I took a printed copy of Sheet Laundry to my mother‘s house, and I read aloud to her all of the chapters that have to to do with my childhood.
My mom surprised me with a response of acceptance and pride. I was worried that I would not get approval from her and not only did she approve of all of my writing, she praised me for having put it together the way that I have.
Even though this milestone is personal and does not have anything to do with the structure or publication of the book, it was probably my most dreaded milestone and I couldn’t have dreamed up a better way for it to have went.
Other than that, I gave updated copies to two young adult beta readers and now I am waiting for their responses. I wanted this demographic to give me feedback because I believe a large percentage of my readers will fall into this age group.
Once I hear from them, I will make my final revisions before beginning the process of finding an agent to represent me.
